Summer Drink Series: Summer Citrus Sangria

Hello Darlings!

After I graduated from college I decided I didn’t want to be a full-fledged adult yet, so I bought a plane ticket to Spain and spent a few months in Barcelona before backpacking across Europe. I loved the culture of Barcelona, full of late night tapas bars, afternoon siestas, and street performers displaying spectacular costumes, there was always something new and exciting happening. The food and drink, mirrored the excitability of Barca’s residents, each day brought a new fantastic cocktail recipe and I fell in love with sangria, both traditional recipes and new-fangled craft-cocktail-esque variations as well!

The fresh fruit, to me, is what makes sangria so great. So as I was popping around the supermarket and saw a gorgeous assortment of citrus piled high and shiny, I knew my next sangria recipe was born. The lovely folks at Black Box Wines generously sent me a selection of their products, from boxed wines that are tasty, portable, and reduce their company’s carbon footprint to wine juice boxes (talk about not wanting to be a big kid yet, wine in juice boxes? Yes, please) everything I have tried so far I’ve loved-look out for more Black Box Wine on the blog soon!

Ingredients:

1 Bottle White Wine
1 Cup Vodka
2 Oranges, Sliced
3 Limes, Sliced
1 Grapefruit, Sliced
Large Handful of Fresh Mint, De-stemmed

Note: I use the citrus rind in my recipe; I love the flavor that the rind’s oils give the sangria. I recommend using all organic fruit so you don’t get any nasty chemicals in your cocktail!

Instructions:

1. Pour white wine and vodka into a large pitcher, stir.

2. Add in sliced fruit, and mix well to combine.

3. Add mint. If serving right away, also add ice cubes to chill!

4. Let stand in the refrigerator for flavors to meld.

5. Serve chilled with fruit in each glass!
