Do It Yourself: Sunburn Soothing Bath Soak

Hello Darlings!

I am very much so a warm weather person.  While, yes, the snow-capped mountains are beautiful here in Colorado, and I do adore seeing little miss Tinkerbelle tunneling around in her element; give me sunshine and a bikini and I am one happy camper. However, my skin isn’t so sure about the altitude.



I am Irish, German, and Spanish (from Spain) so pale, pale, and brown. So usually when I head out into the sun I turn a bit pink and overnight the pink fades and I turn golden brown- not in Colorado! After the Blend retreat I headed up to my mom’s place in Steamboat to say hello and enjoy a few extra days of gorgeous mountain air before I headed back to Denver. I decided to lay out, fell asleep and ended up with one of the worst sunburns I have ever had. Thanks, altitude!


In order to soothe the burn I took my mom’s stash of herbs and created a tea for my body to steep in which really helped ease the pain.

Ingredients:

- 2 Cups Epsom Salt
- ¼ Cup Chamomile Flowers
- ¼ Cup Comfrey Leaf
- 5-10 Drops Lavender Oil


Instructions:

1. Mix all dry ingredients together thoroughly.
2. Add mixture to lukewarm bath; add lavender oil.
3. Let bath steep 10-15 minutes.


4. Enjoy!

The Epsom Salt is a pain relief and anti-inflammatory, and I’ve paired it with lavender oil, a great holistic burn treatment (as seen in my Basic Holistic First Aid Kit), the soothing effects of chamomile, and comfrey for its ability to hasten the healing process while soothing raw skin for an all-around comforting soak.


However, moral of the story: WEAR SUNSCREEN! While this bath soak can help, you should really try to avoid the bad burn to begin with!
